Shipment tracking
Every box that leaves the warehouse carries a carrier label, and every label has a tracking number. ConsignTrak keeps those numbers on the order, so the office can answer "where's my shipment?" and the supply partner can see it in their portal.
Most tracking numbers arrive without anyone typing them. This section covers the four ways they get there, and what to do when one doesn't.
How a tracking number gets onto a shipment
| Way in | Who does it | When | Page |
|---|---|---|---|
| Scanned at shipping | The warehouse, on the phone or at the ship station | As each box is labelled | Packing, shipping & pickup |
| Typed in later | The office, from the pending-tracking queue | When the warehouse couldn't scan a label | Pending tracking |
| Imported from a file | The office | End of day, from UPS WorldShip or FedEx Ship Manager | Importing tracking from WorldShip and FedEx |
| Sent by the carrier | Nobody — it's automatic | When FedEx or UPS reports a label for a set-up supply partner | Automatic carrier updates |
All four put the number in the same place. A shipment can hold several boxes, each with its own number — see Multi-box shipments.
Where you'll find it
In the desktop sidebar, under Operations:
- Pending tracking — shipments the warehouse sent out without a scanned label. An amber count beside the link shows how many are waiting.
- Import tracking — upload a carrier's end-of-day file.
Both appear only for Office users and Administrators. On an order's page, the Tracking section lists every box, and Edit Tracking opens the same edit page the queue uses.
The supply partner owns the stock and bills the customer. When a customer asks the supply partner where their order is, the answer has to be in ConsignTrak — the supply partner sees each box's tracking link in their portal without calling the warehouse.
