Pick exceptions & quarantine

Sooner or later the shelf and ConsignTrak disagree. A bin holds fewer than the system says, the wrong part ends up in a carton, or goods arrive damaged. ConsignTrak never lets the warehouse paper over it. The floor reports the problem the moment they find it, and the office decides what happens next.

This section is for Office users and Administrators — the people who make that decision.

The three pick exceptions

A pick exception is a problem reported from the floor against one line of an order.

  • Short pick — the picker found fewer units on the shelf than the order asks for. They enter how many they found and say why: Location empty, Damaged, Miscounted on hand or Other.
  • Mispick — the packer opened the carton and found the wrong item. They record what's actually in it, if they can tell.
  • Quality — the item is right but something is wrong with it: damaged, wrong packaging, an unreadable label. The packer takes a photo. A quality flag can cover one line or the whole batch.

The warehouse side of this — how a picker or packer reports each one — is in Picking and Packing, shipping & pickup.

Blocked orders

Every short pick and every mispick blocks its order. So does a quality flag for damage. A blocked order can't be packed, shipped or picked up until the office resolves the exception. While any order is blocked, a red banner across the top of every office screen says so, with a Resolve now link to the queue.

Quality flags for wrong packaging, an unreadable label, or Other don't block anything. They wait in the queue for the office to acknowledge.

Why ConsignTrak stops the order

The stock on the shelf belongs to the supply partner, not the warehouse. When the shelf and the records disagree, someone else's property is unaccounted for. Nothing ships on a guess, and every decision is recorded with who made it, when, and why.

What the office does

For each exception, you choose a disposition — what should happen to the order — and ConsignTrak carries it out: ship what's there and backorder the rest, send it back to be picked again, hand the whole order to the supply partner to ship direct, or cancel it. If you need the supply partner's answer first, you mark the exception awaiting supply partner and the order stays blocked while you wait.

Resolving the exception doesn't fix the stock count on its own. When a short pick means the shelf really was short, you can correct on-hand stock in the same step, or later through an adjustment. ConsignTrak flags any resolution that still needs one — see Follow-up flags.

In this section

  • The triage queue — finding, reviewing and resolving pick exceptions.
  • Quarantine — receiving lines that failed inspection, and the evidence you keep on them.
  • Follow-up flags — making sure every short shelf ends with a corrected count.
